1.  *     سورة عبسى بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ٛــــ عبس وتولى     swr+ `bsi bsm allh alrHmn alrHym ? `bs wtwli     He frowned/knit or contracted his brows and he turned away.     He (Muhammad) frowned and turned away.     (The Prophet) frowned and turned away,
 
2.  *     ان جاءه الاعمى     an ja'h ala`mi     That (E) the blind (man) came to him.     When the blind man came to him.     Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting).
 
3.  *     ومايدريك لعله يزكى     wmaydryk l`lh yzki     And what makes you know/informs you maybe/perhaps he, he purifies/corrects (himself).     How do you know? He may purify himself.     But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?-
 
4.  *     او يذكر فتنفعه الذكرى     aw yXkr ftnf`h alXkri     Or He mentions/remembers, so the remembrance/reminder benefits him.     Or he may take heed, and benefit from the message.     Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him?
 
5.  *     اما من استغنى     ama mn astGni     But/as for who availed/sufficed (rejected).     As for the rich man.     As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient,
 
6.  *     فانت له تصدى     fant lh tSdi     So you are for him paying attention/being concerned with.     You gave him your attention.     To him dost thou attend;
 
7.  *     وماعليك الا يزكى     wma`lyk ala yzki     And it (is) not on you that he not purifies/corrects (himself).     Even though you could not guarantee his salvation.     Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding).
 
8.  *     واما من جاءك يسعى     wama mn ja'k ys`i     And but/as for who came to you striving/hastening.     The one who came to you eagerly.     But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly,
 
9.  *     وهو يخشى     whw yK$i     And he fears.     And is really reverent.     And with fear (in his heart),
 
10.  *     فانت عنه تلهى     fant `nh tlhi     So you are from him distracted/preoccupied.     You ignored him.     Of him wast thou unmindful.
 
11.  *     كلا انها تذكرة     kla anha tXkr+     No, but that it truly is a reminder.     Indeed, this is a reminder.     By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction:
 
12.  *     فمن شاء ذكره     fmn $a' Xkrh     So who wanted/willed remembered/mentioned Him.     Whoever wills shall take heed.     Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance.
 
13.  *     في صحف مكرمة     fy SHf mkrm+     In honoured written pages/sheets (scriptures).     In honorable scriptures.     (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour,
 
14.  *     مرفوعة مطهرة     mrfw`+ mThr+     Raised, purified.     Exalted and pure.     Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy,
 
15.  *     بايدي سفرة     baydy sfr+     By messengers'/scribes'/writers' hands.     (Written) by the hands of messengers.     (Written) by the hands of scribes-
 
16.  *     كرام بررة     kram brr+     Honoured/generous, righteous/obedient.     Who are honorable and righteous.     Honourable and Pious and Just.
 
17.  *     قتل الانسان مااكفره     qtl alansan maakfrh     Killed ('woe') the human/mankind what made him more disbelieving (an expression)?     Woe to the human being; he is so unappreciative!     Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah.
 
18.  *     من اي شئ خلقه     mn ay $Y Klqh     From what thing He created him?     What did He create him from?     From what stuff hath He created him?
 
19.  *     من نطفة خلقه فقدره     mn nTf+ Klqh fqdrh     From a drop/male's or female's secretion He created him, so He predestined/evaluated/estimated him.     From a tiny drop, He creates him and designs him.     From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions;
 
20.  *     ثم السبيل يسره     xm alsbyl ysrh     Then (to) the road/path He eased him.     Then He points out the path for him.     Then doth He make His path smooth for him;
 
21.  *     ثم اماته فاقبره     xm amath faqbrh     Then He made him die, so He caused him to be buried in a grave.     Then He puts him to death, and into the grave     Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave;
 
22.  *     ثم اذا شاء انشره     xm aXa $a' an$rh     Then when/if He willed/wanted/intended He revived/resurrected him.     When He wills, He resurrects him.     Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again).
 
23.  *     كلا لما يقض ماامره     kla lma yqD maamrh     No/but he did not (E) accomplish/execute what He ordered/commanded him.     He shall uphold His commandments.     By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him.
 
24.  *     فلينظر الانسان الى طعامه     flynZr alansan ali T`amh     So the human/mankind should look/watch to his food.     Let the human consider his food!     Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it):
 
25.  *     انا صببنا الماء صبا     ana Sbbna alma' Sba     We (E), We poured/flowed the water pouring/flowing.     We pour the water generously.     For that We pour forth water in abundance,
 
26.  *     ثم شققنا الارض شقا     xm $qqna alarD $qa     Then We split/cracked the earth/Planet Earth splitting/cracking.     Then we split the soil open.     And We split the earth in fragments,
 
27.  *     فانبتنا فيها حبا     fanbtna fyha Hba     So We sprouted/grew in it seeds/grains.     We grow in it grains.     And produce therein corn,
 
28.  *     وعنبا وقضبا     w`nba wqDba     And grapes and all trees and vegetation when it regrows for animal consumption i.e.) clover.     Grapes and pasture.     And Grapes and nutritious plants,
 
29.  *     وزيتونا ونخلا     wzytwna wnKla     And olives and palm trees.     Olives and palms.     And Olives and Dates,
 
30.  *     وحدائق غلبا     wHdaYq Glba     And dense/luxurious fenced gardens.     A variety of orchards.     And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees,
 
31.  *     وفاكهة وابا     wfakh+ waba     And fruits and grass/hay/herbs.     Fruits and vegetables.     And fruits and fodder,-
 
32.  *     متاعا لكم ولانعامكم     mta`a lkm wlan`amkm     Enjoyment for you and for your camels/livestock.     To provide life support for you and your animals.     For use and convenience to you and your cattle.
 
33.  *     فاذا جاءت الصاخة     faXa ja't alSaK+     So when the Deafening Noise/Resurrection Day came.     Then, when the blow comes to pass.     At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,-
 
34.  *     يوم يفر المرء من اخيه     ywm yfr almr' mn aKyh     A day/time the human/man escapes/flees from his brother.     That is the day when one flees from his brother.     That Day shall a man flee from his own brother,
 
35.  *     وامه وابيه     wamh wabyh     And his mother, and his father.     From his mother and father.     And from his mother and his father,
 
36.  *     وصاحبته وبنيه     wSaHbth wbnyh     And his wife/companion/friend, and his sons and daughters.     From his spouse and children.     And from his wife and his children.
 
37.  *     لكل امرئ منهم يومئذ شان يغنيه     lkl amrY mnhm ywmYX $an yGnyh     To every/each human/man from them (on) that day (is) a matter/affair (that) suffices him (worries and keeps him busy).     Each one of them, on that day, worries about his own destiny.     Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others.
 
38.  *     وجوه يومئذ مسفرة     wjwh ywmYX msfr+     Faces/fronts (on) that day, lit and shining.     Some faces on that day will be happy.     Some faces that Day will be beaming,
 
39.  *     ضاحكة مستبشرة     DaHk+ mstb$r+     Laughing, cheerful/rejoiced.     Laughing and joyful.     Laughing, rejoicing.
 
40.  *     ووجوه يومئذ عليها غبرة     wwjwh ywmYX `lyha Gbr+     And faces/fronts (on) that day, on it (is) dust.     Other faces, on that day, will be covered with misery.     And other faces that Day will be dust-stained,
 
41.  *     ترهقها قترة     trhqha qtr+     Smoke/dust burdens/depresses/oppresses it.     Overwhelmed by remorse.     Blackness will cover them:
 
42.  *     اولئك هم الكفرة الفجرة     awlYk hm alkfr+ alfjr+     Those, they are the disbelievers, the debauchers/corrupters.458     These are the wicked disbelievers.     Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity.
